Nyuydine Meriwether, also known as Cairo, is the driving force behind A&Y’s Sober and Independent Living. Her path to creating this non-profit organization is deeply rooted in her personal experiences and her unwavering commitment to community service.
Nyuydine’s journey began in her childhood, where she was raised by her grandfather, a traditional doctor. She grew up assisting him as he treated the sick, cared for individuals with mental challenges, and supported the community. This early exposure instilled in her a deep sense of compassion and a desire to help those in need.
As an adult, Nyuydine pursued a career in healthcare, working as a Certified Nursing Assistant for 16 years in nursing homes and hospitals. However, she felt called to do more. Inspired by her grandfather’s holistic approach to care and her own experiences in the healthcare system, Nyuydine decided to leave her job and pursue her dream of providing comprehensive support to vulnerable individuals.
